Why should people re-read this story?: It’s a gentle story where not a lot happens, but there’s a lot going on – Peter and Elizabeth are raising puppies. Neal is the mayor of the town. They’ve built a new and very satisfying life. It’s a story about choices and family and love and everything we hold dear. Also, I’ll be writing the “Winter” piece for Fic-Can-Ukah in the coming weeks, and possibly Summer or Fall, too.

November Recommendations - Family and Domesticity

In celebration of Thanksgiving here in the United States,

wcredux wants you to recommend your fanworks that center around family and domesticity. One of the things that is so integral to White Collar is that families take many forms, and the strongest families are not formed by blood or by traditional vows.

Neal tries so hard to stay calm, but he can only keep himself together for so long. There's a lot of long-distance Peter and Neal interaction and a lot of fear on both sides.

Why should people re-read this story?: I was trying to write a lyrical death story and I think I succeeded, and even though the story was written in August (and if I recall correctly, a very hot and unpleasant August), there is something autumnal about it - it feels like winter is just around the corner. The fic is based on the imagery of Wim Wender's classic Wings of Desire.

October Recommendations - Spooky Fics

wcredux and it's time for you to bring out your spooky fics! Stories don't necessarily need to be about Halloween, but there should be some element of creepiness or surprise or fear. This is also the month to self-rec your death and dying fics, too.

Introducing White Collar Redux: Because sometimes, the old stories are the best

Sometimes, the old stories are the best…

Someone once said that the average fanwork has a shelf-life of twenty-four hours – a pretty damning, but a very much true statement. We work on our stories and art pieces for weeks, sometimes months, and once we post them, the clock runs very quickly. Some of us have a few tricks to extend the life of a story: we’ll post to our journals first, and then to the relevant communities and maybe a week or so later, to AO3.

But once that’s done, the fic (and by fic, we mean any fanwork) really lives in the memories of you, the creator, and if you’re lucky, on someone’s list of bookmarks. Sometimes, someone does a meme and you talk about a fic that had meaning for you and you might get a flurry of fresh eyes on it, but those memes are few and far between.

If you’re like me, you’ve probably wished there was a way to bring your stories back into the light of day. While there is an active fic search community, writers are sometimes hesitant to self-rec. There’s also a rec’ing community for White Collar fic, but that one explicitly prohibits self-recommendations.

wcredux has been created by fanworks creators for creators of fanworks of all sorts to joyfully and unabashedly recommend their own creations. Of course, you can recommend works by other creators, but we really want you to recommend what you think is the best of your own works.
