October Recommendations - Spooky Fics

This is the inaugural month for wcredux and it's time for you to bring out your spooky fics! Stories don't necessarily need to be about Halloween, but there should be some element of creepiness or surprise or fear. This is also the month to self-rec your death and dying fics, too.

Remember - you can recommend one of your fanworks for the theme and the fanwork must be at least six months old (i.e., published before April 2014), but the older the fanwork, the better.

Content Notes: Death Fic - Non-canonical death of a canon character.
Summary: The spirit, cut from the body in a moment of startled agony, lingers. Neal tries to bring solace to those he left behind, and to make sense of what happened.
Why should people re-read this story?: I was trying to write a lyrical death story and I think I succeeded, and even though the story was written in August (and if I recall correctly, a very hot and unpleasant August), there is something autumnal about it - it feels like winter is just around the corner. The fic is based on the imagery of Wim Wender's classic Wings of Desire.
