Fic Rec: Shattered

Author: [livejournal.com profile] theatregirl7299
Characters/Pairings: Peter/Neal (Implied Elizabeth), Peter/OMC
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 4,000
Theme: Hurt/Comfort
Original Publication Date: July 13, 2013
Content Notes:
Summary: When Peter opens a box of mementos from his college years, it takes him back to a chapter in his life he'd rather forget.
Why should people re-read this story?: There are a lot of experiences that make up the back story of our favorite characters. This story came about when I started to think about what scars Peter would carry from his past that would make him worry about Neal running.

MARCH REC - What Was Lost

Author: [livejournal.com profile] pooh_collector
Characters/Pairings: P/E/N
Rating: NC17
Word Count: ~12,000
Theme: Hurt/Comfort
Original Publication Date: February 13, 2013
Content Notes: (i.e., warnings or triggers) a little bit of explicit smex
Summary: AU ending to Checkmate. Written for this prompt from [livejournal.com profile] rabidchild: Let’s just suppose that Checkmate didn’t go quite as we saw, El was never rescued, even though Peter tore down heaven and earth to find her, and Keller got away with the treasure.

Fast forward a few weeks or months and even though they haven’t spoken to each other outside of the case, Neal is the one to bring El home to Peter. How’s Peter react? How does El? Do they find their way back together, all three of them?
Why should people re-read this story?: It's one of my two favorite pieces that I've written. And Neal surprised me, going all unexpectedly self-sacrificial. As a writer I find it kind of magical when the characters have minds of their own and change the story that you had planned.

March Rec - The Con Who Came in from the Cold

Author: [livejournal.com profile] leesa_perrie
Characters/Pairings: Mainly Gen, with 'blink and you miss it' Peter/El
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 8,498
Theme: Hurt/Comfort
Original Publication Date: July 23, 2012
Content Notes: For Kate fans, I feel the need to warn you that she is portrayed in a bad light in this fic. This is not because I dislike the character, it's just the way the plot took me (and provides for more Neal angst).
Summary: AU. Peter's day is about to become more complicated, thanks to the human popsicle standing on his doorstep...
Why should people re-read this story?: This is an AU of how Neal ends up working with Peter. Neal gets frozen, suffers much angst and gets whumped. Peter tries to help, gets annoyed and gets a CI. El is awesome and wise. Mozzie makes an appearance. It's not perfect, but people seemed to like it, and as it was my first ever WC fic, it owns a soft spot in my heart.

Fics: Peter/Neal, Mozzie/Neal, Diana/Christie

Author: [livejournal.com profile] daria234
Characters/Pairings: Peter/Neal
Rating: Mature
Word Count: 3968
Theme: Hurt/Comfort
Original Publication Date: 2010
Content Notes: See warnings at link
Summary: Peter/Neal slash, set a few months post-S2-finale. They've argued and made up, but Neal's behavior in bed makes Peter think that Neal hasn't really forgiven him. Naturally, Peter tries to use his problem-solving analytical style to figure it all out.
Why should people re-read this story?: Neal and Peter's relationship needs a lot of work. Also there's sex.

Characters/Pairings: Mozzie/Neal
Rating: Explicit
Word Count: 1320
Theme: Hurt/Comfort
Original Publication Date: 2011
Content Notes: See warnings at link
Summary: Asexual!Moz/Neal established relationship. Mozzie's thoughts on pleasure, desire, sex, and what people are willing to do to stay in their relationships.
Why should people re-read this story?: Mozzie talks about Jean Genet?
Fanwork Links: Ecstatic: http://archiveofourown.org/works/254615

Author: [livejournal.com profile] daria234
Characters/Pairings: Diana/Christie
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1744
Theme: Hurt/Comfort
Original Publication Date: 2012
Content Notes: See warnings at link
Summary: Why Christie liked DC better, and what she won't ever say about it to Diana.
Why should people re-read this story?: Because Diana/Christie was an awesome relationship and it would have been nice to have more of them in canon. Also because the fic deals with Peter and Diana's great work relationship. Plus there's angst.

March Recommendations – Hurt/Comfort

Since the very beginning of the White Collar Fandom, the theme of Hurt/Comfort has been preeminent. The White Collar Hurt/Comfort Community is one of the most vibrant on LJ and your mods know how much fanworks creators love this theme. That's why we're opening up the throttle and letting everyone's inner hurt-comforteers run free.

Instead of one fanwork this month, creators can make multiple recs of their own creations here on [livejournal.com profile] wcredux. But (and isn't there always a "but") each recommendation has to feature a different whumpee. For example, one self-rec can have Neal as the whumpee, another rec, Peter, and a third might be Elizabeth, and so on.

The age rules for the fanwork are still in effect – the work must be at least six months old (i.e., published before September 2014), and of course, the older the fanwork, the better.

You can always recommend as many fanworks from other creators as you want to (but do check to see that they haven't yet been rec'd here on [livejournal.com profile] wcredux), and they must also be at least six month old.

Posts for this theme will be open until March 31. Early next month your mods will collect the recommendations and add them to the master list.

Why should people re-read this story?: It's a fun story with very little angst, told almost from Neal's point of view. Anyone who's experienced the horrors of air travel will sympathize with poor, exhausted Neal.

February Recommendations - Romance and Schmoop

Some of us hate St. Valentine's Day and the manufactured romance, but you have to admit that it makes for a potent theme in the bleakness of mid-winter. [livejournal.com profile] wcredux wants your romantic and your schmoopy fanwork recommendations. And if you find that you are opposed, in principal, to the very idea of Valentine's Day, then give us a recommendation for a trainwreck of a relationship.

Remember - you can recommend one of your fanworks for the theme and the fanwork must be at least six months old (i.e., published before August 2014), but the older the fanwork, the better.

Why should people re-read this story?: I've written quite a few first-time stories before, but this one is in a difficult and dangerous setting (a first for me), and I think it's one of the most lyrical first times I've ever written.

Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 738
Theme: First Times
Original Publication Date: November 04, 2013
Content Notes: none
Summary: It’s never a good idea to play poker with Neal.
Why should people re-read this story?: I'm really proud of this little gem. It's short and funny. At the same time, it's all about sneaky Neal being sneaky and finding a way to get what he wants (namely Peter).

January Recs: Quaestio Amoris

Characters/Pairings: Peter/Neal, Elizabeth
Rating: PG
Word Count:1,424
Theme:January Rec – First Times
Original Publication Date: March 31, 2013
Content Notes: None
Summary: What happened when Elizabeth asked the question. Posted for Run_The_Con.
Why should people re-read this story?: This story shows the first time Peter admits what he feels about Neal. I still love the uncertainty, questions, and finally the resolution. I actually wrote the end before I wrote the beginning.

Summary: Neal calls in sick and Peter drops by with soup, written for the [livejournal.com profile] fan_flashworks 'horocscope' challenge.
Why should people re-read this story?: Because, from the beginning, both Peter and El cared about Neal.  As I wrote in my fic, it's not really about the soup anyway.
