Summary: Is Neal really reformed?
Why should people re-read this story?:  We usually see Neal trying to straddle both worlds and Peter trying to convince him to leave his life of crime.  This fic brings a different viewpoint on Neal's work for the FBI.

The days are getting noticeably shorter and with Labor Day, it's time to buckle down, put away the flip-flops and bathing suits and get back to work. Which means it's a good time to recommend your White Collar case fics – stories that focus on solving a mystery, or maybe plugging up a plot hole from an episode.

Remember - you can recommend one of your fanworks for the theme and the fanwork must be at least six months old (i.e., published before March, 2015), but the older the fanwork, the better.

You can always recommend as many fanworks from other creators as you want to (but do check to see that they haven't yet been rec'd here on [livejournal.com profile] wcredux), and they must also be at least six month old.

Posts for this theme will be open until September 30. Early next month, your mods will collect the recommendations and add them to the master list.

Please don't hesitate to contact a mod if you have any questions.

Characters/Pairings: Peter Burke
Rating: G
Word Count: 1200
Theme: Special Theme Week – Peter Burke's Birthday
Original Publication Date: 08 July 2010
Content Notes: None
Summary: The Road Not Taken – Young Peter's challenged by his friends to do something bad , but he remembers what his father once told him. Likes the Desert, Misses the Rain - Peter and his dad go on a trip by themselves and discover just how much they miss what they left behind.
Why should people re-read this story?: Okay, I know the rules say ONE story, but these two very brief ficlets are in a single post. I wrote them from prompts given to me by one of my first fandom friends, [livejournal.com profile] photoash. Even though they were written very early in my WC fandom career, before Season 2 started to air, I think that they still hold true for the character of Peter Burke.

In Shot Through the Heart, via Rachel Turner's massive collection of paper files (and the magic of screen caps), we learned that Peter's birthday is August 25. For the entire week (August 25 – September 1), [livejournal.com profile] wcredux is asking for recommendations for stories featuring Peter-as-child or Kid!Peter (de-aged) fanworks.

Same rules apply to Special Theme Weeks - one fanwork, and it must be at least six month old (written before February, 2015).

You can always recommend as many fanworks from other creators as you want to (but do check to see that they haven't yet been rec'd here on [livejournal.com profile] wcredux), and they must also be at least six month old.

Posts for this Special Theme Week will remain open until 11:59 PM on September 1. Afterwards, your mods will collect the recommendations and add them to the master list.

Characters/Pairings: Peter Burke, Neal Caffrey, Mozzie, Elizabeth Mitchell, Diana Berrigan, Clinton Jones, Vincent Adler, Daniel Picah, mention of other canon characters in minor non-canon settings; Peter/Neal, Neal/Daniel, Peter/Adler, Adler/Neal
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: ~56,000
Theme: Villains
Original Publication Date: July 2, 2013
Content Notes: Prostitution, rape, Domination/submission, dubious consent, fuck-or-die scenario, use of gender-specific insults
Summary: In some alternate universe, Peter Burke is a wealthy and bored financial advisor and discovers that one of his clients, Elizabeth Mitchell, is using her event planning business to launder profits from an escort service catering to the wealthy gay elite in New York. Instead of turning her in, he asks her to hire him. Neal Caffrey has been recently released from a four-year sentence for bond forgery and learns that his girlfriend, Kate has married his old boyfriend, Matthew Keller and they’ve taken off for parts unknown. Determined not to return to prison, Neal turns to his friend, Mozzie, for help. Moz knows a guy – or in this case – a gal who’s willing to hire Neal. As an escort.
Why should people re-read this story?: Because this is one of my favorite stories, it's case fic, it's kink fic, there's hurt/comfort, rentboys, romance, and one seriously over-the-top portrayal of Vincent Adler.

Characters/Pairings: Neal Caffrey, Philip Kramer, Peter Burke, Sally, Elizabeth Burke; Neal/Kramer, Neal/Sara (mentioned), Neal/Peter/El
Rating: R
Word Count: ~ 5.100
Theme: August - Villains
Original Publication Date: Apríl 2012
Content Notes: Seduction, mild sexual content, dub-con
Summary: When Kramer succeeds in his plans and drags Neal with him to DC, Neal refuses to surrender and accept his fate. Instead, he pulls a destructive con to get back what he lost. AU, a darker portrayal of Neal, tag to Judgment Day.
Why should people re-read this story?: This was far out of my comfort zone and it’s quite twisted, but it’s still one of my favorite things that I’ve written. Maybe because it explores Neal as a con man at his absolutely best and worst – in his quest to ruin Kramer and get his freedom, Neal is brilliant, ruthless and as much a danger to himself as to the target of his ire.

White Collar has featured some spectacular and very memorable villains. Some have ostensibly been on the "right" side of the law, like Ruiz, Philip Kramer and Garrett Fowler, others have been season-long "big bads" like Vincent Adler, Matthew Keller, Curtis Hagen, Rebecca Lowe/Rachel Turner, Terrence Pratt, and Alan Woodford. And there have been the memorable one-shots, like Ryan Wilkes, Edward Walker, Andy Woods, Avery Philips and Ford Tolman.

As with recommendations for the June Theme, the fanwork you rec should feature the villain – not just mention him or her in passing. The fanwork doesn't have to be about that character, but the character should have a major role in the fanwork.

Remember - you can recommend one of your fanworks for the theme and the fanwork must be at least six months old (i.e., published before February 2015), but the older the fanwork, the better.

Word Count: 600
Theme: Hot and Bothered
Original Publication Date: July 2011
Content Notes: Masturbation
Summary: Neal wasn't prepared for how it would feel to earn the clothes on his back.
Why should people re-read this story?: I wrote this before I even knew there was such a thing as a White Collar fandom. A friend had a Suits and Uniforms Fic Fest and one of the prompts was "Sometimes Neal just stands in his closet and stares at his beautiful suits." I think it holds up well, it's short and sweet and you probably haven't read it before.

If February is for love and May is the month for friendship fanworks, July is the month where we want your recommendations for fanworks designed to get everyone all hot and bothered. Fanworks don't have to be X-Rated or super kinky (but we'd like it if they are). And we want all flavors of smut - slash or het, OTP or OT3, or solo pleasures.

Remember - you can recommend one of your fanworks for the theme and the fanwork must be at least six months old (i.e., published before January, 2015), but the older the fanwork, the better.

Theme: June – Secondary characters
Original Publication Date: April 2012
Content Notes: None
Summary: After Neal is forced to escape, Kramer with his team comes to search June’s house. A tag to Judgment Day.
Why should people re-read this story?: This is still very much my personal favorite story. It’s not exactly a happy fic, but it has June in all her glory and brilliance as she stands up against the FBI and tries to protect her house and Neal. It’s a story about the difference between the letter of the law and doing what’s right – and also about compassion, freedom, friendship and love.

FIRST TIME RECCER w00t!

Author: [livejournal.com profile] florastuart
Characters/Pairings: Neal/Kate, Fowler, Mozzie, Peter, Keller, Adler
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 78,000
Theme: Secondary Characters
Original Publication Date: September 2012
Content Notes: Some violence
Summary: She’s never liked chess, and this is chess played in the dark and blindfolded, and all the pieces are broken glass. Kate’s POV of season 1.
Why should people re-read this story?: You should read this story because chances are you missed it the first time around. You should re-read this story to be reminded that there are more than two sides to every story. And you should read it even if (especially if) Kate was not a favorite of yours. Believe me, you won't be alone. This more than any other story I've read has the most reviewers start out by saying something along the lines "I've never liked (this character) before..." But this story will turn you around on Kate (and even Fowler), I promise. Or, even if you still don't like them, you'll understand a gazillion times better. Florastuart takes every single tiny little morsel of information we are given about Kate, about Kate and Neal, about Neal pre-canon and creates this unbelievable rich and nuanced life. I could really go on and on about it. But I won't, because really, you should just go over and give it a try. I guarantee you won't be sorry.

On and off for a number of years, there was a community of Dreamwidth called "The Month of June", which focused on Neal's lovely and larcenous landlady, June Ellington. New fanworks were posted for each day of the sixth month of the year. Rather than replicate that here, the month of June is devoted to White Collar's wonderful secondary characters: Diana, Clinton, Hughes, Lauren, June, Satchmo, Sara, Kate, Alex, Blake, Bugsy. (Any recurring character other than Peter, Neal, Elizabeth or Mozzie.)

Note: Technically, Philip Kramer, Vincent Adler, Matthew Keller, Curtis Hagen, Garrett Fowler, Rebecca Lowe/Rachel Turner, and Alan Woodford are recurring secondary characters, but the theme for August is "Villains" and you might want to save those recs for that month.

The fanwork you rec should feature the secondary character – not just mention him or her in passing. The fanwork doesn't have to be about that character, but the character should have a major role in the fanwork.

Remember - you can recommend one of your fanworks for the theme and the fanwork must be at least six months old (i.e., published before December, 2014), but the older the fanwork, the better.

You can always recommend as many fanworks from other creators as you want to (but do check to see that they haven't yet been rec'd here on [livejournal.com profile] wcredux), and they must also be at least six month old.
